How does the on-line learning trend affect other countries with fewer opportunities?

American students actually live on-line. They use their laptops, iPods, cell phones, PC and other devices in their everyday life and study. It is difficult to imagine modern students without Internet.
How about other countries with fewer opportunities? I think it is a big problem for modern students in other countries.
Recently I have got a message from Moldova. My friend wrote me that in their school no teacher for computer’s classes. The high school students don’t have any opportunity to study computer.
Of course, the students in that school don’t know anything about computer, Internet, Websites, Web resource. Unfortunately, they wouldn’t be able to study on-line. In this way, the students of high school in Moldova (Grigoriopol school #1) don’t know anything about on-line education. Could teacher explain them what on-line education is? Of course, it is not modern education.
I live in America for 6 years and I see the big difference between education in Moldova and in America.
Almost all classes in Pima Community College use on-line education. The teachers and the instructors use computer and Internet for homework, testing online, discussion on-line, syllabus on-line and so on.
The great role in the process of education belongs to D2Learn. The students can work and study.  Classes of D2Learn save the time for studying. You can learn from the distance. You can watch educational movie, analyze it, take part in discussion on-line, read the instruction and ask question to the instructor. So you can be in the process and you can schedule your time for learning.
If you are not a student and work full-time, you could continue your education when you are familiar with computer and Internet.  News, movies, new products, new literature advertising and reading - everything you can find in the Internet.
Unfortunately, the students in some school of Moldova don’t know the computer and Internet. I see a big difference in educational opportunities. Here is a big gaps in education.

On-line Education

In my research paper I'm planning to analyse modern on-line methods of educations. I think that education and popular culture are very close to each other. Good educated society could raise the culture, but bad educated people are not very interesting in the culture. Education is very important for the development of culture. I want to analyse different methods of education:  regular classes, on-line classes, combined classes, when students meet each other in the classroom and on-line.  It will be good to analyse D2Learn classes. They are new and very popular in Pima Community College. Students learn in these classes: WRT, Sociology, Health Information Technology, United States History, ART History, CSA and many other subjects.  It will be interesting to compare different ways to meet people in class and on-line. The main purpose of my future research is investigation of D2Learn classes and compares them to traditional classes. Why students love them, why they choose them and how they study popular culture in different ways? I think that is going to be one very interesting project.
In my project I’m going to use different source of information. In this way, the video “Information literacy series overview” is very helpful. It helps students improve their information literacy skills. Doctor Bob Baker said the “process of acquiring pieces of information is like trying to fill a teacup with a fire horse.” The Information literacy according to Dr. Baker include: ability to find, use and evaluate Information.

I would like to focus more on D2Learn. It was my last blog post and it was interesting to discuss it. Internet is new media. It opens a lot of opportunities for students. We can learn and work, because we schedule our time. We can learn on the distant and we can be involved in the developing of popular culture.
In my opinion, popular culture is a new way in the educational process. Since childhood, everybody learns songs, ferities, games, some famous poems for children. At school students learn more poems and they read popular stories and books, watch and discuss TV show. Teenagers post their thoughts on Facebook account and write on the walls of their friends, in this way people began to write, create, type, and read more often and young people desire to write more interesting, more creative to became more popular in Internet. In the same time other teenagers who are less creative, less educated begin to criticize. They do it not polite, not with real name. How can creative teenager protect himself? In this way very important to know how to ban impolite person, how to moderate personal page. It is good way to study possibilities of the Internet. Some of young people are ready for D2Learn without special education like computer literacy. Modern methods of education are more democratically influence the students. They learn by themselves.
Nowadays, it is very popular to know Internet very well. It is a culture of modern society. In this way, teenagers desire to have computers at home or they go to the libraries, and/or to the Internet-café.
On the other hand it is very good for teachers to teach students, using D2Learn classes.  On-line discussions are very popular in History classes, Literature classes, Sociology classes, WRT classes, especially on the high levels. Students are typing very fast; it saves a lot of time. For me, like for student, it is very interesting to read all posts in discussions. In WRT 126, it is very interesting to read all students short stories and literature’s discussions.
I can compare all these methods with methods of education in Moldova. Moldova is a new independent country in Europe. There are not so much opportunities for teenagers to use computer and Internet. Not enough computers at schools. Some schools don’t have computers at all. In some schools students have opportunity to use computer only in the computer information class. In my opinion, it is not enough sources for modern education in Moldova and in the other new independent countries after collapse USSR.
In this way, I find a great question for investigation:
How does the on-line learning trend affect other countries with fewer opportunities?

D2Learn Analysis

D2Learn Analysis

“Do you have desire?”
“Of course, I have. My big desire is to learn. I want to have good profession, then great career and good life!”
“I understand you! Can you explain me what kind of classes are desire to learn? Are they media?”
“Yes, if you are Pima Community College student, you can take classes online. You can register online and choose a class online”.
“Are they specific?”
Yes! They are very specific! You should know very well Word 2010, Internet, Computer, and Keyboarding. You should have PC or laptop and schedule your personal time.
There is a great quotation about media:
“The medium is the message” – Marshall McLuhan’s said.
When you take D2Learn class, you have great messages. I read the syllabus online and follow all instructions in the syllabus and assignments. You create your own written works: post, e-mails to your class-mates and instructor. You receive e-mails and you study online materials and read e-books. You listen to voice-mails and send voice-mails. You watch video for studying course materials and sometimes you create your video. And every time you have a new message which is your new knowledge and your new experience. Finally, you take a test online.
While you study everything in the online class, you receive new credits for you future profession. When you will start your career in business or you are going to work in the modern office, you already will have not only knowledge, but you will have a great experience in working online. Try to focus on that!
If you are Pima Community College student, you would like to register for One of D2Learn class. If you already registered, go to Academic tab and then open D2Learn. You will see your online classes. It is very valuable, because you save your time. People say, “Time is money!” It is true. You shouldn’t go to your regular class, you just open your account and you can work online. You can do it home, or go to Learning Center and take any computer available. When you open the online class, you will see everything you need: content for every week, assignments, group and class discussions, quizzes and open forum. Feel free! You study and everything was done for you.
You can ask me, “Where is a message?”
“All materials for class are messages. For example, you take WRT26 class. Today you must read the short story “Replay All”, by Robin Hemley. This story is a message for you! Read it carefully and create your post about this story. In this way, you will post a new message for your classmates. Be creative! Your message must be unique and interesting for all readers. When your new post is ready, it is a new message for your class-mates and teacher. Then you will read all posts of your classmates and it is a deep analysis created by all your class. In this way, many students created one big analysis of one story. Many messages became one big message.
Studying online is a good way to be graduated in a College or University. Graduation in the College is a great value. People believe that the graduated person is very professional and can create a good career. Nowadays, new media is very important for good education. Every specialist must be well-known with new media. Business, Selling, Advertising are very prospering in the Internet. It is very popular now to create Website for every corporation and businesses. The competitions between corporations can be failed without using Internet opportunities.  That is why, when you take classes online, you became more familiar with media and you going to be good specialist in the near future.

"Legalized Lying"

“Advertising is a legalized lying,” H.G. Wells declared nearly a century ago. However advertising is prospering in our days. A lot of people watch TV and YouTube, they are play the Internet games, read newspapers and magazines and everywhere they can read and watch advertisements. Some advertisements are very useful and popular. For example, American icon is Smoky Bear. “Smokey Bear is America's wildfire prevention icon. He has educated generations of Americans about their role in preventing human-caused wildfires. Created in 1944, the Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention campaign is the longest running public service advertising campaign in U.S. History. As one of the world's most recognizable fictional characters, Smokey's image is protected by U.S. Federal Law and is administered by the USDA Forest Service, the National Association of State Foresters and the Ad Council ”(American Icon)

The advertising in our days is like an art and  an entertainment. It is like a guessing game. The most important thing for advertisement is to get attention with advertising. “How to get attention with advertising?” This is the most important question for advertisement designers. They try to male advertisements more pleasurable. “Our attention gravitates towards images and things we are find pleasurable.

Many ads feature beautiful models for this reason. The models are paired with the goods and services creating a satisfying feeling in the viewer. It is the hope that the viewer makes a conscious or subconscious connection of the feeling to ad products and services. Scenery, babies, music, etc. can serve the same purpose.

Advertisement with models is "Dove - Evolution Commercial":

According to Freud, the opposite of the Pleasure Principle is the Reality Principle. Business owners need to find ways to prevent the Reality Principle from overriding the Pleasure principle. Advertising drives consumers to make impulse shopping decisions to get their business in the moment. However, it is vital to good long-term success that a seller does not exploit customers in the process of securing a transaction.

When young people and teenagers watch YouTube or TV advertisement of beer or marijuana they think only about their pleasure and nice time, and they feel themselves like heroes. These advertisements attract them to buy these products: beer, marijuana. But they don’t think about their health and their future.

In this way, they believe they can drink beer and smoke marijuana, but they don’t realize that Reality is different and it is going to be very difficult to stop smoking marijuana and drinking the beеr.

Avon

Avon lifestyles have been sold to me in the last week. My friend Rosie brought for me an Avon magazine. I read on the cover page: “The season’s HOTTEST makeup trends.” It was interesting to see all pictures in the magazine. I saw there beautiful girls and women with nice perfume, makeup, shoes. All girls and women look very happy! They smile. Of course, I understand they are young and they are beautiful without makeups, but some women’s believes that everybody could look younger and more attractive pushed me to buy Avon products. Young and beautiful girls became my icons for this week.
I have bought earrings and lipstick. Cool! Now I hear compliments: “Tatiana, you look very nice!” Some people never talked to me before, but now they smile to me and say, “Hello, Tatiana!”   Really, I see now that they know my name! Does it works? In my comments in my group discussion in class HON 101 online I read: “There is a lot of pressure from media on woman to always look more beautiful, and younger. It is as if we can, or should never be satisfied with the way we look, but advertisements constantly show us and tell us that we must look younger, more beautiful, more poise, and happier” (Aiza Pedregon-Abbott). Next quotation is from HON 101: “The make-up industry, the clothing industry, and every weight loss program that ever existed would all crash and burn if people started being happy with their appearances. But looks aren’t all that we are unhappy about. Somehow society has created this ideal super-person who is the supreme housekeeper, breadwinner, and romantic partner” (Mara McConnell).
Of course, AVON is not only one reason to be happy. We should have a nice family, good carrier, good health and so on. But very small details: perfume, makeup, and earrings – could help us in everyday routines. I think that my friend Rosie helped me to be a little happier with Avon.

This semester I take class HO1 – Honors Colloquium. I believe that it is very interesting and useful class. In first two weeks we discussed popular culture like a subject.  I want to admit that I had never seen a big difference between elite and popular culture.  I saw only a difference between good culture and bad culture. But now I have changed my opinion.  I saw a great film “Great Thinkers: Culture Wars” Today I read an article “The Rise of Popular Culture: A Historiographical Sketch” by LeRoy Ashby.
LeRoy Ashby writes in her interesting article: “During the 1960s and especially the 1970s a number of excellent histories of entertainment emerged.”  I read in the article that the writings of British historians such as E.P. Thompson were also influential. I like Susan Smulyan citation:” Many of us were television kids, born into an age of rock and roll, and our outlooks on popular culture were formed indelibly by the fact that we liked mass-mediated for most entertainment.” Rüssel Nye published in 1970 sweeping study materials “The Unembarrassed Muse: The Popular Arts in America”. This is an impressive examination of entertainments since colonial times. Nye wrote:” Popular art confirms the experience of the majority”.
I read this article with my pleasures and agree with all essays of famous scholars.
